12-02-25 Weekly Update* |
Important Dates:
Academics: I hope your families enjoyed the wonderful weather at the beginning of the break and are now cuddled up and cozy! We have three weeks until Christmas and they are PACKED with material and so many opportunities for fun! (Don't tell your kids, but we will make ornaments for our door decorating contest on Tuesday and I am hoping we have a winner!)
Writing: This week, we will delve further into the first people of Colorado. By the end of the week, your child should be able to write a compare and contrast essay noting the differences between the Cheyenne, Apache and Ute.
Grammar: Students surpassed my expectations and many of them completely nailed all 51 prepositions-Amazing! We will sip sodas while we move into the realm of Pronouns. Your child should be able to tell you the parts of speech we have worked on so far- Nouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Prepositions.
CKLA We will be starting our Poetry Challenge-Students will read and analyze a different poem daily. Every other day, we will compare and contrast the merits of the poems we have read, and decide which should move on in our poetry bracket. I can't wait to see which one will win!
Math: Your kiddo should have been working on the Long Division Homework over break. See Previous Post . If they forgot, or are missing the division tool everything is available on that post. If your kiddo was absent, it is still due for them on Tuesday. I sincerely appreciate your help with this concept as 10 days without practice will make Tuesday exceptionally painful for all of us. This week, students will learn some different strategies for dividing (see attached) in order to comply with 4th grade standards. Ultimately, they will use the standard algorithm on the chapter test, which will likely be next week.
Riggs: We will be NWEA testing next week, and we only have three weeks until Christmas, so Riggs time will be used to work on our Sayings and Phrases for 4th Grade. Idioms and Adages are about as handy as a pocket on a shirt, so we will brush up on these fun and festive phrases.
WHY NWEA? As a teacher, I use this data to determine: -If your child is on grade level -If they are in need of intervention or an advanced learning plan -How I should group students in order to ensure optimal learning during partner/group projects As a class, I use data to identify: -Any gaps that exist that I need to fill and -Subjects that I can accelerate due to a broad knowledge base. -Identify areas I need to further develop my instruction -Evaluate our curriculum |
