*4th Grade Weekly Update, 12-09-25*
12-09-25 Weekly Update* |
Important Dates:
Academics: ***The Legend of Sleepy Hollow*** Students have been diligently practicing their play and will be performing at the end of the week. Parents are welcome to attend. If you email Holly ahead of time, she will print name badges to simplify entrance.
Writing: Gathering info about the first people of Colorado took a bit longer than anticipated. We will use the information we gathered this week to write a compare and contrast essay noting the differences between the Cheyenne, Apache and Ute.
Grammar: We will continue to work on mastering subject pronouns and enter into the realm of "You Understood". These sentences are generally commands where the subject is implied. "Empty the dishwasher" is an excellent example. Your student knows you are talking to them, you just don't name them as the subject of the sentence. See if your kiddo can give you a couple of these.
CKLA We are in the midst of our poetry challenge. They blew me away and chose "My First Memory" (of librarians) as the winner of last week. Ask your child if they agree with the class, or if they prefer one of our other poems.
Math: Students will review the symmetry lessons they have been working on with Mrs. Minne, complete class practice. and the assessment for this chapter on Tuesday. This week, students will continue to learn some different strategies for dividing (see attached) in order to comply with 4th grade standards. Ultimately, they will use the standard algorithm on the chapter test, which will be next Tuesday. Riggs: We will be NWEA testing next week, and we only have three weeks until Christmas, so Riggs time will be used to work on our Sayings and Phrases for 4th Grade. Idioms and Adages are about as handy as a pocket on a shirt, so we will brush up on these fun and festive phrases.
WHY NWEA? As a teacher, I use this data to determine: -If your child is on grade level -If they are in need of intervention or an advanced learning plan -How I should group students in order to ensure optimal learning during partner/group projects As a class, I use data to identify: -Any gaps that exist that I need to fill and -Subjects that I can accelerate due to a broad knowledge base.
