Academics:
CKLA We will take a moment to review what a fourth grade masterpiece sentence looks like by writing 2026 Resolutions. Students should be able to construct complete, detailed sentences that help them set goals (two school based, two extracurricular) for the rest of their time in fourth grade. Feel free to give them ideas before we reconvene on Tuesday :) We will also review literary devices such as onomatopoeia, simile, metaphor, idiom, repetition, anaphora, and couplets before looking at the poem infamous poem Casey at the Bat.
Math: Students will review a few geometric ideas before jumping into measuring angles with protractors and using what we know about the different types of angles to calculate measurement. Expect a math test toward the end of the week or beginning of next week. Then, it's onto factors, multiples and conversions!
Grammar: We will pick up where we left off and continue to work on mastering subject pronouns and review the realm of "You Understood". These sentences are generally commands where the subject is implied. "Empty the dishwasher" is an excellent example. Your student knows you are talking to them, you just don't name them as the subject of the sentence. See if your kiddo can give you a couple of these.
Riggs: I will be introducing our three word lists this week! These mult-syllabic words are taken from our readers, science, or history content. Students will be asked to write them with markings three times each, look them up in a dictionary with a partner to determine meaning, then use them in a sentence each day. The hope is that students gain exposure to academic vocabulary while generalizing the spelling rules they have spent a great deal of their lives learning.
Colorado History: Students will learn about how the horse affected the life of Colorado's first people. They will also compare wiki-ups to tepees. |
